Financial aid at Harvard Law School is exclusively need-based; there are no “merit” or “full-ride” scholarships available. Although financial aid packages vary in composition from one year to the next, some basic guidelines are followed each year. Demonstrated financial need is calculated from a standard student budget, which is set at $116,000 for 2024-25. From the budget, HLS subtracts the Family Resources (determined through the application process every year,) and the Grant Eligibility Threshold, which is set at $54,000 for 2024-25. The remaining amount is your Financial Need, and is met with HLS Grant assistance. |

Most scholarships do not require a separate application, though if nominated, admitted students may be asked to interview and/or submit additional essays. Scholarship nominees and recipients are notified on a rolling basis between late January and late April. To be considered for need-based financial assistance (grants) at Penn Carey Law, we use the financial information that you provide for yourself, your parent(s), and if applicable, your spouse. Applicants for need-based financial aid are required to submit two applications: the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the CSS Profile Application |

Columbia Law School offers a number of highly competitive merit-based scholarships. There is no separate application procedure; scholarships are awarded based on a holistic review of the entirety of your application for admission. Applicants are generally awarded merit-based scholarships at the time of admission. In this era of scarce resources, our guiding policy is to assist students from the neediest families. Since 2021 NYU has met the full demonstrated need of our traditional first-year undergraduate students in New York without the expectation that students will take out loans. President Linda G. Mills has expanded this commitment by announcing the NYU Promise. Starting in Fall 2024, all undergraduates who start as full-time first year students in New York will not have to pay tuition if they have family income under $100,000 and hold typical assets. |
Most of our scholarship aid comes from Dean’s Award scholarships, which are merit- and/or need-based grants in amounts up to full tuition. These are the scholarships available for incoming students. Many others are available for 1L and 2L students. Vanderbilt Scholarship; AnBryce Scholarship Program; Furman Public Policy Scholarship Program; Latinx Rights Scholarship; Root-Tilden-Kern Public Interest Scholarship Program; Sinsheimer Service Scholarship; Lyn & Gilbert M. Gift aid offers that far exceed this amount are possible but exceedingly rare. If you are admitted, you automatically will receive a $105,000 merit scholarship, split evenly over the three years (six semesters) while at Berkeley Law. If admitted, you should presume that the $105,000 associated scholarship will comprise your total gift aid. |
